Frank Lloyd Wright traveled to Japan due to his fascination with ukiyo-e woodblock prints in 1905. During his stay he was influenced by Japanese architecture, evident in his usage of long and low windows to allow for a connection from the interior to the outside. He proceeded to work on the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan, later on in his career in 1923 with Rudolph Schindler.

Rudolph Schindler was subsequently influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright's eastern take on architecture, as is evident in his modern homes such as the Schindler Chase where window frames and walls are reminiscent of Japanese style sliding doors.
